Playhouse Square is a theater district in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, and is the largest performing arts center in the US outside of New York City (only Lincoln Center is larger). It was constructed in a span of 19 months in the early 1920s, the theaters were subsequently closed down but were revived through a grassroots effort.
As part of the dramatic transformation of the neighborhood in 2014, the Playhouse Square retro sign was lit. It stands 44 feet tall, with 9 feet letters and 3-inch LED light bulbs. The sign is located on top of the Cowell and Hubbard building on the corner of Euclid Ave and E. 13th St.
Playhouse Square chandelier was also installed in 2014, and it stands 44 feet tall above Euclid Avenue, but it also serves as the heart of our district and the largest outdoor chandelier in North America.
What a great reminder of Cleveland's grand past, and the return to its glory!
